One of the more unique and unusual beans out there is the Tanzanian Peaberry. The Peaberry connotation indicates that only one bean grows inside of the coffee cherry instead of the usual two, giving it the opportunity to absorb all of the nutrients that it would normally have to share. This also gives it a round shape. Some connoisseurs will swear that the peaberry mutation results in a higher quality coffee and we think it's definitely worth a try. Typically 5-10% of all cherries are peaberries!

For whatever reason, Tanzanian coffee is pretty much always associated with peaberry coffee beans despite the fact that these beans can and do grow in many regions around the world. With its proximity to Ethiopia and its common border with Kenya, Tanzania's population has had a long history and a cultural relationship with coffee. Peaberries have been manually hand-picked from lots during coffee processing and Tanzania has the infrastructure setup to sort the peaberries. Tanzania peaberry is fantastic as a filter coffee, but well suited as a single origin espresso. As you drink that delicious cup, you definitely appreciate the extra work that has gone into picking these special beans!

As a medium roast, our Tanzania single origin sits at 16 on the Roast Vision Scale and 67 on the Agtron Gourmet Colour Scale laid out by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).

Please note: our Tanzania single origin is a limited release coffee.

New household favourite

This was a fantastic coffee, it's interesting while still being approachable and easy drinking for someone not looking for the most exciting coffee. I'll definitely be ordering more.

Thanks for the review Phil, I'm really glad you liked it! Our approach to coffee overall is approachable 3rd wave. We love highlighting the benefits of the origin but are not (necessary) throwing a berry bomb at you. Sounds like we achieved it on this one! All the best.

Nice but standard

The beans make a nice cup of coffee, but there wasn't anything that really jumped out at me as unique; no wow factor. But still a solid cup of coffee so they get a 4 rating.
