MARTINI EXPRESSO BABY!

Espresso Martini Baby!

Espresso Martini Baby!Hang on? A cocktail with coffee in it? Yes, this is right. If you want to become your own version of James Bond for an evening or just throw a bit of glamour in your day-to-day routine, read further as we might have something for you.

The Espresso Martini was invented by Dick Bradsell back in 1983 during his tenure at the Soho Brasserie. It has been said that Dick wanted to impress a young, future supermodel sidled up to the bar who challenged him to make her a cocktail with coffee.

So now there is a trick… There is NO MARTINI in that cocktail! Dick mixed a drink using vodka, sugar, coffee liqueur and a shot of espresso.

If you want to have a look at how to make your perfect Espresso Martini, here is the recipe based on Dick’s first ever one:

40ml good quality vodka
20ml coffee liqueur
25ml fresh espresso
5ml sugar syrup (optional)

METHOD

  1. Pour all ingredients into a shaker (if you have one)
  2. Fill with with ice and shake hard (until it is foamy and silky)
  3. Double strain into a cocktail glass
  4. Garnish with three coffee beans (huh wonder where you can get those ones from?!)

You can finally enjoy your Espresso Martini. There are other variations involving Irish cream or hazelnut liqueur, but let's keep it simple.

We can all agree about the real question though: shaken or stirred? Oh, hang on, there is NO MARTINI in this cocktail!!! ☺
