TASTING NOTES :
Rwanda, a small East African country should not be overlooked by roasters and coffee lovers. Known as the Land of a Thousand Hills, its production of high-quality, high-altitude coffee goes side-by-side with its fight against poverty. And while it’s not one of Africa’s largest producing countries, Rwanda is positioning itself as a world-class specialty coffee origin and the delicious flavours of its coffee back this up.
This specific crop was produced from the land of high mountains, located in the Maraba sector of the Huye district in southern province of Rwanda, at an altitude of 1,702 meters above sea level. It is the harvest of a project from the Gift Coffee Company Ltd (GCC Ltd), whose objective is to uplift the livelihoods of its beneficiaries (local community) who are in a big number in poverty. During the coffee season, this project employed approximately 200 people. Around 80% of the farmers used organic fertilizers, hence creating a unique taste to make it exceptional. These Rwandan beans have also undergone a full wash, which helps to emphasize their fine acidity. Together, the growing climate, high altitude and fully washed process create excellent conditions for the production of the high-quality beans that we love to roast and consume.
This particular roast is very well suited to manual and automated drip as well as immersion style brewing (french press, AeroPress).
As a medium roast, our Rwanda single origin sits at 19 on the Roast Vision Scale and 76 on the Agtron Gourmet Colour Scale laid out by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).
