Our first ever price increase starting on Jan 1, 2022

Brown Bag Coffee Roasters was founded in the spring of 2017 and has been focused on providing specialty grade arabica coffees from around the coffee world.  Specialty grade coffee is graded by the SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) as cupping with a score of 80 or over.  These coffees represent less than 1% of the highest quality coffees in the world.

Last year, Brown Bag Coffee Roasters was selected as the Th3rdwave Coffee Roaster of the Year for the Ottawa-Gatineau region. We are beyond honoured to be the recipient of this award and is an acknowledgement that our quality of product and service, coupled with the passion of our team, is making a difference for coffee in our community.

COVID has put challenges on all aspects of business throughout the world.  2021 saw additional pressure as pricing across the board has increased. Brazil, which provides approximately 40% of the specialty arabica coffee in the world, saw impacts from drought and internal pressures which increased prices. This had a trickle effect as it caused other countries to try and take up the difference. This caused pricing increases across the board. Transportation fees for shipping and freight saw as much as 3 X increases on a per cargo container basis. These same issues also impacted the availability and pricing of packaging, most of which comes from China.

After nearly 4 years in business and no single price increase, we simply have no choice but to bring in a minor price change to our coffee offers. Our team has spent the last 2 months researching coffee pricing from our peers in the market and we are exceedingly confident that we are still providing the very best value on specialty grade, award winning coffee in the region. While many of our peers offer 340 grams size bags, we remain committed to both 227 grams and 454 grams sizes. On a price per gram, we still offer the best value available. Please keep in mind that our analysis was done for our new pricing in 2022 versus existing pricing with our peers. If they raise pricing, we will be even more competitive. Further, customers who choose our subscription packages for coffee enjoy an additional 10% off.

We do thank all our customers for their understanding of these necessary changes we have had to make, and look forward to continuing the coffee adventure with you in 2022 and beyond.

Should you have any questions at all, please feel free to reach out to me to discuss.

Respectfully,

Shann Bosnell
President
